The Strangest Town in Alaska
Begich Tower - 1964

Originally called the Hodge Building, and now known as the Begich Tower, this 14-story structure was at one time the tallest building in Alaska. Built for family housing, it was completed in 1956, only four years before Whittier was inactivated and mothballed by the US Military.
