Where the heck is Whittier?
![]() |
Whittier lies on the shore of Passage Canal, a fjord of Prince William Sound. It is situated within the South Central region of Alaska, the most populated region in the entire state. (Largely attributed to Anchorage - In 1998 Anchorage residents made up 258,782 of the entire state population total 621,400). |

Only about 55 miles from Anchorage by road, Whittier is the nearest deep-water harbor for Anchorage Residents. (Cook Inlet is very shallow). Because of the demand for access to maritime recreation, (kayaking, sightseeing, fishing, diving, hunting, etc.), Whittier gained the nickname "The Gateway to Price William Sound". |
